Māhā’ulepū Heritage Trail • April 20-23, 2026
The Māhā’ulepū Heritage Trail
runs near the shore through low bushy trees from Shipwrecks Beach to Māhā’ulepū Beach.
The density of the low trees along the trail makes it challenging to spot the chorus of birds in the higher trees,
but we saw a few interesting birds and found a nest with parents feedning their chicks.

After looping back more along the shore, Cathy spotted a white-rumped shama
perched about 10 feet up on a tree trunk.
It flew away before Tom could get a photograph, but when it came back, Cathy realized
there was a nest there in the hollowed out branch stub.
The two parents were cycling back and forth feeding at least three chicks.
