While on Maui for a little warm weather and sunshine, we went on a birding tour with Wendy Swee of Explore Maui Nature. The tour started with a drive up Haleakala, stopping along the way to view birds and shop at the visitor center. The longest stop was at Hosmer Grove for our chance to see the endemic Maui birds that have been wiped out from lower elevations by mosquitoes carrying avian malaria.

We skipped driving all the way to the summit to leave more time for the Keālia Pond National Wildlife Refuge where we spent the afternoon.
