Tom & Cathy Visit Kauai - Day 1

Vacation LIVE! from the Internet

Of course, no vacation would be complete without live updates over the Internet to keep friends and family (and maybe even total strangers) apprised of our activities. But, imagine that you've downloaded your first digital photos, cleaned up the best shot and composed the beginnings of the webumentary. Then you find out that dialing up your local ISP long distance over the pond is problematic, so what's a nomadic Internet addict to do? Remember, you can't use the Internet to help until you have an Internet connection! First, root out the yellow pages. No, not the web site, the paper book hidden in the drawer under the phone. Find out where ISPs are listed (it's under "Computers-Networks" in the GTE Hawaiian Tel Everything Pages). Next spend $0.75 per shot dialing up ISPs until you find one that's answering the phone at 7 o'clock on a Sunday evening.

I was fortunate enough to find Larry at Internet Connection in Princeville, Kauai. Not only did he not laugh when I told him I was here on vacation and wanted an Internet connection, he quoted me a pretty reasonable weekly rate. If you're on Kauai and need an ISP, be sure to give him a call, (808) 826-1042.

Cathy relaxing on the porch

Ten hours after we left the house, we were sitting on our lanai, surrounded in lush vegetation and enjoying the sights and sounds of the surf crashing against the shore.
