Kauai Web Credits

This web site would not have been possible as a live webumentary without the following cool products and services.

Hardware

Apple PowerBook 540c The best 68K PowerBook ever made. A bit dated now, but it still packs a lot of punch in a very well designed portable package.

Kodak DC40 Digital CameraA great camera for the price, it's perfect for taking images for a web page. If they'd improve the image quality a little, and add a zoom lens, I'd buy another one. And now that I've used their bundled software for dealing with a ton of pictures, I hate it a little less.

Software

Adobe PhotoShop 3.0.1 PhotoShop rules! It's a totally indispensable tool.

Viking RAM Without the 32MB RAM upgrade, using PhotoShop would not be such a pleasant experience. Don't forget to budget for RAM when you buy PhotoShop.

Simple Text A free, fast, simple text editor straight from Apple; if you're willing to learn HTML, it's the only tool you need for creating simple Web pages.

Microsoft Internet Explorer A free browser that I like better than Netscape Navigator. Give it a try if you aren't already using it. (Disclaimer: I work for Microsoft but as you can tell from the above list, I have a pretty open mind.)

Open Transport PPP Finally, Apple gets a clue and releases decent software for connecting a Macintosh to the Internet. Better late than never. If only the PPP window weren't so huge...

Fetch The standard in Macintosh FTP clients. Don't leave home without it.

Services

Internet Connection, Princeville, Kauai Without these hip folks, I'd still be trying to connect to my ISP over long distance phone lines. You just have to admire a company that sells Internet connections by the week. Read about our experience with them on day 1.

The Ultimate Kauai Guidebook, Second Edition by Andrew Doughty & Harriett Friedman. This fine book helped us figure out fun things to do, find our way around the island and choose among the many companies that run helicopter and boat tours.

Na Pali Adventures We had a lot of fun with these folks, looking for and finally finding, whales.
