Northern Saw-whet Owls Sammamish, WA March-May, 2025
Starting on March 7, 2025, we were treated to a pair of
Northern Saw-whet Owls
taking up residence in a 20-foot snag at the edge of the woods behind our house.
Over a period of 11 weeks, we had the amazing opportunity to observe these tiny but fierce
owls nesting, the young owlets getting their first look at the world, and an adult
delivering mice to the nest each night.
This culminated in recording multiple owlets fledging over a period of 2 weeks.
For scale, the opening to the nest is about three inches in diameter.
